Summer Travel Plans: The Mountains (and New England) Are Calling

Well, it’s starting to get pretty darn warm here in Arizona and we’re getting very antsy to start our summer adventure. We’re trying to fill our days with travel preparations, pool time, tennis, work on the trailer, and seeing Holly’s mom. But, we can’t wait to pack up our travel trailer and hit the road for the summer!!!

What’s the plan?

NOTE: Click on our interactive map to see where we’re traveling this summer!

1Spend a few weeks in Colorado

When we leave Arizona, we’re going to make our way up to Colorado for a few weeks.  We’ll start in Grand Junction.  Drive on over to Glenwood Springs.  Stay in Grand Lake for a couple nights.  And, then park ourselves in Denver for 10 nights.  We’re looking forward to seeing friends and family!

2Slowly make our way to Pennsylvania

When we leave Colorado, we’re heading up to Nebraska to see friends who recently moved to the state.  Then, we’re heading to as many Scheels stores as possible on our way across Nebraska and Kansas.  Holly needs to replenish her supply of Kansas Jayhawk gear, and Scheels is the best place to do that!

We’re also making stops in St Louis and Lake of the Ozarks.  Nether one of us has really spent time in either, so it’ll be fun to explore Louis and Clark stops and take a boat out on the water.

Our first destination in Pennsylvania is staying with Carter’s mom at her convent.  We’ll also be going to Gettysburg and Carter’s home town.  You can bet a lot of money on the fact that Carter will be making us visit every historical marker in Gettysburg. But, we’ll make up for that pain by eating plenty of cosmos, cheesesteaks, and Eder’s ice cream.

3Seeing friends along the way

We can hardly wait to see East Coast friends we haven’t visited in years.  We’ll be spending a week in Ocean City, Maryland, with some of Carter’s college football buddies.  We’ll also be seeing several of Holly’s friends and visiting national monuments in the Washington DC area.  And, you better believe we’ll be making at least one stop at the Annapolis Amish Market.

We also have plans to see friends in Ohio, Massachusetts, Maine, and Vermont.  Can’t wait to play a little tennis, check out local sites, get a VIP tour of Ben & Jerry’s, and catch up on the last 20 years. We’ll also be making a pit stop in Cooperstown, New York, to see one of Carter’s high school classmates get inducted to the Major League Baseball Hall of Fame.

4Stay a couple extra weeks to see the leaves change throughout New England

We’ll be traveling throughout New England for 3 months, and then Holly’s mom is joining us towards the end of our trip.  We’ll pick her up in Portland, Maine, and then make a final loop around New England.  We’re looking forward to seeing all of the leaves change, hiking to the top of Cadillac Mountain, doing a little sea kayaking, eating a ton of lobster, and shopping at the LL Bean Outlet!

5Return to Arizona for the winter

We’ll drop Holly’s mom off in Manchester, New Hampshire, and then start the trek back to Arizona.  We’re guessing it will probably take a least a week to drive the 2,700+ miles, but it depends on how far we want to drive each day. Carter plays in a tennis tournament at the end of October, so it’s super critical we get back in time for him to prepare! 😊

Are there places we need to see or things we need to do along the way?  Please let us know.  We’ll have plenty of time for side trips and new adventures.
